Anthropic told prospective IPO investors at its San Francisco headquarters on Wednesday, October 14th, 2026 that third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion. The figure was reported by The Information, Bloomberg and the Financial Times, and followed by CNBC on October 15th, 2026.

The disclosure did not come from the company's confidential filing. Anthropic confirmed on June 1st, 2026 that it had submitted a draft registration statement on Form S-1 to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, but the revenue number surfaced four and a half months later, in front of investors.

What happened

In its June statement, issued under Rule 135 of the Securities Act of 1933 and carried by CNBC and Constellation Research, Anthropic said the submission gave it the option to go public after the SEC completes its review, and that any offering depends on market conditions. The company said the number of shares and the price had not been set.

Anthropic got there first. CNBC reported on June 1st, 2026 that the company was moving ahead of rival OpenAI, which was then preparing its own confidential filing. Quartz reported OpenAI submitted its confidential S-1 to the SEC on June 8th, 2026, one week later.

The numbers behind the number

Outlets do not agree on the prior quarter. CNBC reported second-quarter revenue of about $11.6 billion and first-quarter revenue of $4.7 billion, while Bloomberg, via Quartz, and the Financial Times, via Yahoo Finance, put the second quarter at $11.5 billion. The implied quarter-on-quarter increase is about 45% per The Information and nearly 50% per the Financial Times.

The Information reported that the $16.8 billion quarter was more than 3.6 times Anthropic's revenue for all of 2025. Business Standard reported it was roughly a 12-fold increase on the same quarter a year earlier.

Anthropic told investors it was profitable on an adjusted basis in the third quarter, with positive free cash flow, an 85% gross margin and an adjusted operating margin above 11%, according to Bloomberg as reported by Quartz and Business Standard. The company also said it generated $1.70 in revenue for every dollar spent on computing power, per the Financial Times as cited by CNBC, and investors expect it to reach $110 billion in annualized revenue by year-end, per The Wall Street Journal as cited by CNBC.

What the record shows

A draft prospectus reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and reported by Reuters shows $16.3 billion of revenue in the first half of 2026, up from $1.1 billion a year earlier, against a net loss of $80.7 billion. About $72 billion of that loss is a non-cash accounting charge tied to convertible financing instruments. The same draft reportedly shows 2025 revenue of roughly $4.6 billion, an operating loss of more than $8 billion and a net loss near $42 billion, of which about $34 billion is a convertible-instrument charge, against 2024 revenue of $386 million.

Compute commitments are reported as a range. 24/7 Wall St. cited about $450 billion of noncancelable cloud agreements over the next decade. Quartz, citing Reuters, reported a minimum pledge of $518 billion over ten years. ChainCatcher and KuCoin summaries cite more than $600 billion.

Our own record has nothing to add here. Anthropic is private, with no public insider filings to read against these figures.

What to watch

No public S-1 had appeared on SEC EDGAR as of October 24th, 2026, according to FinanceFeeds, which noted a listing targeted for mid-November 2026. Anthropic's last private mark was a $965 billion post-money valuation from a $65 billion Series H led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital. IPO valuation talk has fallen from about $2 trillion to roughly $1.5 trillion per Reuters on October 22nd, 2026, with PYMNTS reporting some investors weighing a figure near $1.2 trillion. The Nasdaq fell 2.6% on October 22nd, 2026, its steepest daily drop since early June, as earnings reignited concern about AI spending, Reuters reported.

Every Anthropic financial figure here is sourced to people familiar with the matter or to journalists' reviews of a confidential draft. The prospectus is not posted on EDGAR and the numbers could change, as 24/7 Wall St. cautioned.
